The Fifth Annual Quincy Exchange Club Firefighter of the Year Award presentation took place today with October being National Fire Awareness Month. This year’s winner was Assistant Fire Chief James Pioch of the Quincy Fire Department, an 18 year veteran of the Department.
The Quincy Police Department held a news conference at Washington Park this afternoon, and announced an arrest in the case of Newcomb Hotel fire. 24-year-old Matthew C. Clark has been arrested in the case.
Well, last Friday thousands turned out for "Flames in the District," and thousands may turn out this Friday for "Blues in the District!" The Rusty Wright Band will entertain the attendees at Washington Park for the season finale.
A five alarm fire destroys the Hotel Newcomb building. The first alarm came around 8:45 p.m. on Friday night. Several streets are closed off in the areat. Smoke and flames were visible from just east of Taylor on US 24 and much of northwest Quincy smells of smoke
The top ten list of endangered historic places was announced today by Landmarks Illinois at a press conference held in Springfield and Quincy has one of the sites on the list. That site is the historic Newcomb Hotel at 4th and Maine Streets in Quincy.
