Quincy City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2014 in observance of Memorial Day. City Hall will reopen Tuesday, May 27, 2014 for regular business hours.
Demolition crews began working yesterday to demolish the old Daylight Donuts building at 24th and Broadway and have roped off the adjacent building which used to house The Associated Bank. This coupled with the removal of a building directly east of the Coach House Restaurant is certainly making 24th and Broadway begin to take on another look.
The City of Quincy will begin a Wheeled Garbage Tote sign up on Monday May 5 through Friday June 6. Sign ups will be held in the Water Department on the 2nd floor at City Hall. You may call to sign up at (217) 228-4580 if you have a password on your water account. If not, you must sign up in person at City Hall.
The 28th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is in the books. Many thanks to everyone for being in the parade and coming down to watch it as we finally "Ushered in Spring". With over 100 entries, this year's parade was the biggest ever surpassing the previous record of 94 entries.
Garbage stickers in Quincy are getting more expensive. On an 11-3 vote, the Quincy City council increased the price to 75 cents. Residents also have the choice of using a larger tote for a monthly fee. The increase is effective May 1.
Little by little things are getting back to normal as the snow has basically subsided. The issues with blowing and drifting snow remain so travel still questionable in some areas. Overall, in the City of Quincy, I must send kudos to the plow drivers.
It looks like your shovel is going to be your best friend for the next few days. Thank goodness it was a dry snow and very light in texture which makes for easier shoveling. As you already know, driving conditions are not the best despite the efforts of City, County and State plows that have been working throughout the day and night.
OK, it is going on two days since two apparent drive by shootings took place. I wrote about them yesterday and the comments I am getting, as expected, show that people were upset with what happened here in their city and they don't want to see a repeat of it. So, I write this blog to the person or persons who know exactly what took place and why. What are you waiting for?
