Quincy Fire Department

The Quincy Fire Department will be hosting their third Annual Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off this Saturday in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week. The event will be held at the Quincy Mall parking lot near Bergners from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Quincy Fire Department is again selling commemorative t-shirts to raise funds for the Blessing Cancer Center's Financial Assistance Program. This year the shirts are pink in color and the design features a full back logo with the breast cancer ribbon, dressed as a firefighter, opening a fire hydrant.

Well, last Friday thousands turned out for "Flames in the District," and thousands may turn out this Friday for "Blues in the District!" The Rusty Wright Band will entertain the attendees at Washington Park for the season finale.

The next Friday the Thirteenth is in September, and it just might be a fun one if you take advantage of a trip being organized by Brother Ed Arambasich, the chaplain for the Quincy Fire Department.

The public is invited to attend a prayer memorial service for the nineteen firefighters of the Prescott, Arizona Fire Department that were lost fighting wildfires this past weekend.

The Quincy Gems are presenting a benefit softball game this Saturday at Q.U. Stadium with the Adams County Sheriff's Department taking on the Quincy Fire Department.  Game time is 6:30 Saturday night with all proceeds benefiting both departments.

The Quincy Commons Shopping Center has received the "all clear" for people to return to the area after an early morning gas leak forced evacuation of the area.

If the city of Quincy, Illinois, ever had an adopted child, chances are very good her name would be Ella Cain. Ask most anyone from Quincy about “Baby Ella” and their faces light up. Words like “miracle” and “courage” are usually brought into the conversation...

I am always amazed at why people would like to plunge into a freezing body of water yet they do it year after year.  They did it again this past Saturday for the 9th consecutive year with the Polar Plunge to raise monies for the Special Olympians in West Central Illinois.

All the hugging, kissing and well wishing on New Year's Eve for a great 2013 just hasn't made it happen in Quincy.  The first three days of the new year have kept the Fire Department and Police Department hopping. In three days we have had 2 apparent murders and two very bad fires as well. This, on the heels of a late 2012 bank robbery where the suspect is still at large. What going on here?   Rea
