Every summer, on one night, the folks of Hannibal will all gather their favorite people together in yards, lawn chairs, truck beds, and even on rooftops to enjoy one of the biggest events of Tom Sawyer Days; the annual Fourth of July fireworks display.

The frigid skies will be filled with fireworks in Hannibal Wednesday night.

It was an absolutely perfect night for fireworks last Friday night. The annual fireworks display in Quincy took place at the Illinois Veterans Home. In other years it has been held on the Quincy Riverfront. Independence Day is perfect for outdoor family fun. It's also the one time of year when it’s seems to be okay to play with matches. Family fun and playing with matches may seem like an unlikely combo, but hey, so is America, right?

The Fourth of July is not far away, which means there will be a lot of fireworks displays in the coming weeks! Here is the information we have, so far, on where you can see fireworks in Quincy, Hannibal, and the surrounding area.

For years I have heard that fireworks are illegal in the city limits of Quincy, but that is not a true statement. Some fireworks are legal and others aren't.

Local baseball returns to the area on May 28, when the Quincy Gems travel to Hannibal for a game against the Cavemen at Clemens Field. The Gems home opener at Q.U. Stadium is scheduled for Friday, May 30, and the second game of the season on June 1 will be the first Fireworks Night of 2014 at the ballpark.

The Lewis County Relay For Life is coming September 7 at Martin Park in Canton.

The Hannibal Cavemen will host a special game on July 14 at Clemens Field. The Cavemen will play the U.S. Military All-Stars at 7:05. During this game, all veterans will be admitted free with their military IDs, and there will be special giveaways and fireworks following the game.

The Fourth of July weekend has arrived! We wish everyone a very happy Independence Day, and we hope you and your family have a great time.
