MoDOT and its contractor would like to invite area residents to learn more about the upcoming resurfacing and shoulder improvements on MO 79 from Route T in Hannibal to Route E near Saverton. The open-house-style informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 25 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the A. D. Stowell Elementary School located at 500 Union Street in Hannibal.

Two 10-minute presentations will be given by MoDOT District Engineer Paula Gough at 4:45 and 5:45 p.m. Several representatives from MoDOT and the contractor will be available to answer questions about the project in between presentations.

Gough encourages anyone who drives this part of MO 79 to attend. "This is a long-term investment for the area, and we will show attendees maps outlining the a schedule and how drivers will be impacted," explained Gough.

Mark Twain Cave, Sawyer's Creek and Continental Cement will be accessible throughout the project. Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 8 and was awarded to Chester Bross Construction Co., Inc. of Hannibal, MO at a cost of $4,418,953.81.

This improvement includes bicycle markings along the shoulders, railroad crossing improvements and new guard rail at various locations along the highway. MoDOT and Bross Construction staff will be available to answer questions.
