The West Quincy Levee Break Took Place 23 Years Ago Today

If you were around Quincy 23 years ago today, you probably know where you were when you heard the news that the levee in West Quincy failed to hold back the mighty Mississippi River. We all knew when it happened because the news and the river spread like wildfire. Free Fishing Days in Illinois This Weekend

If you have listened to the Y101 Morning Show over the years you probably know that on Free Fishing Days Dennis Oliver and I would go out and fish live on the air.  Sometimes we were at the Mississippi River and other times at ponds and lakes in the area. Over the years I have caught a few fish during our live broadcast times, but Mr. Oliver has never caught a fish with me during those times or even during the off-air times. Not one fish has ever been harvested by him over a 20 or so on and off years of fishing with me.

Illinois, Missouri and Iowa have Some Strange Town Names

For four years I drove from South Kansas City to Harrisonville, Missouri to go to work. Every day I would pass by the exit ramp to the town of Peculiar, Missouri.  Inevitably, there would be a car pulled over by the side of the highway with people taking a picture of the sign that said 'Peculiar Exit'. You have to admit, it is a unique name for a town.

It wasn't until I was an adult that I discovered that one of those shows has a local tie to our region.

Do You Believe in Momo, the Missouri Monster? [Poll]

An interesting story was trending on Facebook last summer about the "Lizard Man" that supposedly lives in Bishopville, South Carolina. I had never heard of the Lizard Man. I have heard about reptile men, the Moth Man, chupacabras, and of course, Momo, the Missouri Monster.
