Hannibal’s first bat festival will be April 17, in celebration of National Bat Appreciation Day. Events are planned during the day at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center with sunset activities at Sodalis Nature Preserve.
Anyone taking a tour of the famous Mark Twain Cave on Highway 79, just south of Hannibal, has heard the story of Dr. Joseph Nash McDowell and his young daughter. Many of the tour guides and visitors have actually seen the spirit of Dr. McDowell's daughter.
This year’s Cheers for The Kids 2014 is being held tonight from 5 to 9 at Cave Hollow West Winery in Hannibal, located directly across from the Mark Twain Cave. Tickets are $20 per person or $30 per couple which gets you get 4 wine tastings, appetizers plus jazz music provided by the Twain City Jazz band.
MoDOT and its contractor would like to invite area residents to learn more about the upcoming resurfacing and shoulder improvements on MO 79 from Route T in Hannibal to Route E near Saverton. The open-house-style informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 25 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the A. D. Stowell Elementary School located at 500 Union Street in Hannibal.
