Eight Culver-Stockton Athletic Programs Named NAIA Scholar Teams

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named eight of Culver-Stockton College’s athletic programs as 2012-13 Scholar Teams. For a team to be considered for NAIA Scholar Team, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

Women’s volleyball topped the list for Culver-Stockton with a 3.62 team GPA. Women’s cross country was next with a 3.52 team GPA while women’s basketball was third with a 3.24 team GPA. Women’s soccer was fourth with a 3.23 GPA while men’s golf was the top men’s program and fifth overall with a 3.22 GPA. Women’s outdoor track and field (3.20), women’s golf (3.13) and men’s outdoor track and field (3.03) rounded out the list.

With eight teams honored, Culver-Stockton tied with Baker University for third-most teams honored by the NAIA from the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Only Benedictine College (12) and Evangel University (10) had more athletic programs honored.

Culver-Stockton had 11 student-athletes named NAIA scholar-athletes during the 2012-13 academic year. The college also had one student honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as an academic All-Region selection.

Congratulations to Culver-Stockton.  It’s just one more reason why my good friend, the late John Tripp, correctly coined the phrase “Harvard On The Hill” for the campus in Canton, Missouri.
