Quincy's annual Smoke on the River will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 5 & 6, 2014. The Quincy Exchange Club says that Smoke on the River has doubled in size since its inception. Admission to Smoke on the River is free, visitors only need to pay for their food.

The Concert in the Cornfield in South Jacksonville, Illinois will feature a huge act in 2014. Montgomery Gentry has been booked for the September 6 concert, and Madd Hoss Jackson will open the show. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased online.

The annual Endless Summer Car Show will take place at the Illinois Veterans Home, 12th & Locust in Quincy, on September 7, 2014. This event, presented by the Tri-State Lugnuts Car Club, is always much appreciated by area car enthusiasts, as well as the veterans that reside at the home. The Lugnuts will also host their monthly car cruise at the Quincy Mall on the night before the car show, beginning at 6:30.

The Western Illiinois Fairgrounds in Griggsville will host country music's Cole Swindell for a "Party in the Infield" on September 7. General admission tickets are $19.99 and VIP tickets are $29.99. Tickets can be purchased online. Broseph E. Lee and Skyline Ridge will open the show.

The 14th annual  Quincy Classic Boat & Outboard Show is September 12 - 14. Over the weekend there will be in-water and static boat displays, and a swap meet.The River Run from Hannibal to Quincy has been cancelled because of high waters, but the show will go on.

September 11 - 14 the 27th annual Northeast Missouri Old Threshers celebration will take place at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbina, Missouri. The Kentucky Headhunters are headlining the entertainment for this year. They will perform on Saturday, September 13 at 8 p.m.

The Barry Apple Festival is always one of the more popular area events. This year, the festival runs from October 2 - 5. "Barry's Got Talent," pageants, a 5K run/walk, arts & crafts, a carnival, and, of course, plenty of apple-themed food and an apple pie contest, are all parts of this annual tradition in western Illinois. The Grand Parade for the Barry Apple Festival will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4.

Main Street in downtown Hannibal will be closed to traffic, as arts & craft, food and cultural booths are set up down each side of the street. The Folk Life Festival is presented to educate and celebrate cultural heritage by showcasing historic crafts, food, music, performing arts and culture of the past.

Twice each year, artists and craftsmen who live and work along the 50 mile stretch from Clarksville to Hannibal open their studios and galleries for the 50 Miles of Art tours. Those participating will have a chance to visit with the talented artists of Clarksville, Louisiana and Hannibal. In 2014, the fall studio and gallery tours will take place November 1 - 2.
