Twenty four years ago last Wednesday the last lightless Major League baseball park became lighted. Wrigley Field turned the lights on for the first time on August 8th, 1988 only to have the game against the Philadelphia Phillies get rained out after 3 and a half innings of play. It got me thinking about what is going to happen in a few years with this wonderful ballpark?

The year was 1976. The country was just a few years removed from the end of the Vietnam War. People were still protesting. Some in private and others in public. The day was April 25th, 1976. The Chicago Cubs were playing in Los Angeles against the Dodgers

Today is the home opener of the St. Louis Cardinals and the schedule maker knew what he was doing by scheduling the Chicago Cubs as the opponent. If you live in this area you already know about the Cardinal-Cub rivalry that takes place every time these two teams meet.

With the advent of a brand new season comes renewed hope for millions of baseball fans that their favorite team might win it all this year.  For St. Louis Cardinal fans in the Y101 listening area, the memory of doing so is quite vivid in their minds.  For Chicago Cub fans the beginning of the season is the best time of the year.

Well here it is.  The "official" opening of the Major League Baseball season as the World Champion  St. Louis Cardinals will meet the newly named Miami Marlins in the Marlin's brand new stadium tonight in Miami.
