One of Quincy's newer annual Halloween events is Safe Halloween for Kids, which will return for its third year at the Eagle's Nest Hotel and Conference Center on October 29. Townsquare Media's Trisha O'Cheltree is one of the organizers of Safe Halloween for Kids. She took a moment to answer a few questions about this fun night that allows kids to trick-or-treat a hotel.

Safe Halloween for Kids is still kind of a new event. For those that aren’t familiar with it, could you describe Safe Halloween for Kids?

It is a safe place for kids in our community to come dressed up in their costumes and trick-or-treat in the halls of the Eagle’s Nest hotel. The trick-or-treating is done inside, with area businesses handing out goodies. Pepsi will be there with refreshments.

During the first two years, did you see any great costumes that were really memorable?

There are always the costumes of whatever Disney movie is big at the time. The most memorable for me have been Edward Scissor Hands, Popeye, race car and a parent had a baby as a lobster in a pot.

Safe Halloween for Kids has been extremely well attended in previous years. What is it that draws some many kids to trick-or-treat at the Eagle’s Nest?

It’s another night to wear a Halloween costume, it’s inside (so no weather issues) and a chance to see friends...and of course the candy!

Is Safe Halloween for Kids planning anything new/different this year?

The only real difference this year, will be the flow of traffic to make it flow better and in hopes to make it more time efficient.

We hear that Texas Roadhouse is going to help out with a Safe Halloween for Kids fundraiser. What’s that all about?

Yes, On October 13 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. Texas Roadhouse is doing a fundraiser for Safe Halloween. We are doing the fundraiser to help raise money for candy to be given out at Safe Halloween. We go through a lot of candy each year with the amount of kids that come and without the community’s help, the kiddos wouldn’t get much candy, and it helps us keep the event free to the community. We will be there handing out flyers so be sure to come out to Texas Roadhouse and eat. They will offer a free cactus blossom or fried pickle with a $5 donation. Anything over $5 they get to choose either a cactus blossom or fried pickle and get a coupon for a free pickle or blossom or kids meal on a future visit. Also,10% of gift card sales that evening will go to Safe Halloween for Kids.

Safe Halloween for Kids is from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 at the Eagle's Nest Hotel and Conference Center, 300 South Third in Quincy.
