Hannibal residents and visitors celebrated Independence Day in America's Hometown with the 60th annual National Tom Sawyer Days.

The event kicked off unofficially on July 1, when the carnival opened downtown. National Tom Sawyer Days activities began in full on July 2, with the pet show, Mississippi Mud Volleyball Tournament and nighttime entertainment at Tanyard Gardens.

The arts and crafts show in Central Park opened on Friday, and contests such as Tomboy Sawyer and local and state fence painting were also part of Friday festiviities. National recording artists Natalie Stovall and the Drive and Jon Pardi appeared in concert Friday night at Tanyard Gardens.

On Saturday morning, over 2,100 participants ran in the 20th annual Hannibal Cannibal, and the streets were filled with spectators for the annual Fourth of July Parade. At noon, Rhet Reed and Molly Broughton were named the official Tom and Becky ambassadors for 2015-2016. Saturday activities also included the Frog Jump Contest, washers tournament, Hannibal's Got Talent talent show, National Fence Painting Contest, a performance from comedy hypnotist Brian Madrid at Tanyard Gardens, and fireworks at dusk.

National Tom Sawyer Days 2015 concluded on Sunday with the final rounds of the Mississippi Mud Volleyball Tournament, a horseshoe tournament, arts and crafts at Central Park, and a raffle drawing.
