Four Quincy Firefighters to Receive the Firefighter Excellence Award

The Quincy Fire Department has proudly announced that four firefighters will be receiving the Firefighting Excellence Award from the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.  The Firefighter Excellence Award is awarded for an act of service in the line of duty, demonstrating excellence and professionalism in service to the citizens in the State of Illinois.

The four firefighters in order above, Firefighter Steven Peters, Firefighter Jamie Pieper, Firefighter Nate Pool and Captain Bernie Vahlkamp, are to be recognized for their efforts at the Hotel Elkton fire that took place on December 12, 2014.

At that fire, these four men facilitated the rescue and removal of multiple occupants from the fire floor under quickly deteriorating fire conditions. The ceremony will be held in Springfield, Illinois today.
