The American Red Cross and Quincy Fire Department are seeking volunteers to help with a Home Fire Campaign event in Quincy on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Volunteers will work in teams of three and make door-to-door visits in predetermined neighborhoods installing free smoke alarms and helping residents develop a home fire escape plan.
The Quincy Fire Department is now accepting registrations for their 2016 Spring Citizen's Fire Academy classes. The Academy will start on Tuesday, March 15 and will run for ten weeks, all on Tuesday nights, ending on May 17.

If you are a pet owner you won't want to miss this opportunity as Brother Ed Arambasich will conduct a "Pet Blessing" this afternoon. Brother Ed, will hold the St. Francis Blessing of Pets at 9th and Vermont in Quincy today from 4 until 6 p.m.
Shortly after 1 p.m. today Quincy firefighters were called to one of the busiest intersections in the city to fight a vehicle fire. A truck in the northbound lane of 24th Street at Broadway caught fire at the traffic light at that intersection.
The City of Quincy will continue its 175th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 3 when the Quincy Fire Department will hold a parade of fire fighting apparatus down Maine Street. The public is invited to the parade of fire trucks beginning at 1 p.m. that Saturday beginning at 12th and Maine to proceeding to 5th and Maine Streets.
Twenty-seven years ago I took my 6-year-old daughter to the Peoria Zoo and as chance would have it one of the Peoria hospitals was holding a stuffed animal day at the Zoo. Little did I know 27 years later, the idea that I brought back to Quincy would still be flourishing.
The Quincy Fire Department is again selling commemorative t-shirts to raise funds for the Blessing Cancer Center's Financial Assistance Program. This year the shirts are black in color. The design features a full back logo with the breast cancer ribbons, dressed as firefighters, operating an old Quincy Fire Department hand pumper in observance of the City of Quincy's 175th Anniversary of being a chartered city.
