Seven times a day someone in this country dies in a home fire. Countless others suffer injuries. To combat these tragic statistics, the Red Cross two years ago launched a nationwide campaign to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to home fires by 25 percent over the next five years.
With winter staring us in the face it is time to remind you of some safety precautions you can take to make your late fall and wintertime a safe time. The Quincy Fire Department currently has a wreath on each fire station with red and white lights on them They were all red bulbs but after each structure fire a white bulb replaces a red one and so far there are 4 white bulbs on each wreath. Hopefully, those will be the only bulb replacements needed for the rest of this holiday season. The following tips from the Quincy Fire Department are recommended to keep another white bulb from going on the wreaths.
Today marks the third anniversary of the Newcomb Hotel fire in Quincy. It was a beautiful night for early September in 2013. The sun had set and many people were out on what turned out to be a not so typical night in Quincy's downtown district.
The American Red Cross and Quincy Fire Department are seeking volunteers to help with a Home Fire Campaign event in Quincy on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Volunteers will work in teams of three and make door-to-door visits in predetermined neighborhoods installing free smoke alarms and helping residents develop a home fire escape plan.
The Quincy Fire Department is now accepting registrations for their 2016 Spring Citizen's Fire Academy classes. The Academy will start on Tuesday, March 15 and will run for ten weeks, all on Tuesday nights, ending on May 17.
