It is known as the Emerald Ash Borer, and America’s neighborhoods and forests are under attack with an infestation of this insect. The Emerald Ash Borer beetle has destroyed tens of millions of Ash trees and the City of Quincy is aggressively trying to save the Ash trees in the area.

The Ash Borer lives in firewood. If you move firewood you may be helping to spread the destruction. The main carrier of this infestation is people who purchase firewood and haul it to other parts of the country which spreads the problem.  The Emerald Ash Borer has made its way to our area and the City of Quincy is trying to combat them as best it can.

In an effort to combat the threat of the Emerald Ash Borer insect to Ash trees, the City of Quincy has contracted with Trees “R” Us, Inc. to treat 194 local street trees, which have been selected by the City Tree Commission.

Trees “R” Us, Inc. will begin treatment on Tuesday, June 9, and conclude Wednesday, June 10.  There will be a two-man crew working Quincy neighborhoods within the city, wearing high-visibility shirts and driving a vehicle marked Trees “R” Us, Inc.

If you have any questions regarding this tree disease or the word being done to combat it, please contact the Department of Planning & Development at (217) 228-4515 any day Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
