Quincy Garbage Pickup on Streets Only Until Further Notice

Monday will mark three weeks since the massive storm ripped through the Quincy area bringing down thousands of trees with it. The nearly 80 mile per hour winds caused all kinds of problems including loss of electricity, damage to homes and property plus remaining tree damage.  With all that, the city is working hard to clean up the debris left behind and re-establish normal operations. Unfortunately, one thing that is still not back to normal is garbage pickup.

Mayor Moore Asks Business Community for Support in Quincy Cleanup

An army of volunteers assisted the elderly and disabled to remove debris from their properties over the weekend. They worked in high heat and humidity along with some rain at times as part of the "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" campaign. Unfortunately, they were able to do just so much.  Most of them needed to return to work today. Much more needs to be done in the city's recovery. With that in mind, Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore has asked for the business community to step up and assist.

It’s 2015, Underground Power Lines Need to Happen

Last Friday I had the opportunity to listen to Adams County Emergency Services Director John Simon as he spoke to the Quincy Exchange Club. During his comments he mentioned that some 21,800 power connections needed replacement as a result of the huge front-line wind storm that ripped through the area. As you already know, thousands of residents were without power for days.   It makes you wonder if we are way past the time when power lines and poles need to go away?

Cleanup News Conference Calls for Weekend Volunteers [Listen]

The storm recovery project is continuing in the City of Quincy. This upcoming weekend will be filled with the sounds of chainsaws as people try to clear their property of fallen tree limbs. There are plenty of elderly and disabled people who will not be able to do any cleanup. Therefore, there is  a request for people who can help them this Saturday and Sunday during the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days. If you can volunteer this weekend, please call (217)-214-7788.

The City of Quincy has made arrangements for four household waste collection sites around the city for private citizens of the city to use during this storm damage crisis through Friday, July 17. This will allow Quincy citizens to dispose of house waste and food waste only, absolutely NO YARD WASTE, trees or debris.
