A Hero Comes Home to Visit

If you read our blogs or listen to Y101 radio, you know we do a thing called "The Backyard BBQ." We have been doing  these every summer since 1993. It is where people e-mail us or get on social media and tell us why they would like to win a Backyard BBQ. It is one of our best ways to get out and meet our Y101 listeners.

Last night, we held one near Palmyra, Mo. It was a great time, but very hot with temps around 102. As we were meeting people, we were introduced to a young woman who is on leave from the military. She just flew home from Afganistan. Her name is Heidi. Her mother is the one who requested the BBQ from us.

I am so glad we had a chance to meet Heidi and spend some time with her family. Everybody had a great time. I even had a chance to see an old friend of mine whom I have not seen for a very long while. But what made the BBQ special was Heidi. She will be flying back very soon to serve her country. Heidi, we wish you safe travels and  when  you get back to the states, let's throw another party to welcome you back, hopefully for good.
