Illinois State Police District 20 Commander, Captain Robert Elliott announced that Trooper Matthew Poulter was selected as Illinois State Police District 20 Trooper of the Year and will represent District 20 as a candidate for the Illinois State Police Officer of the Year in Springfield.

Trooper Poulter began his Illinois State Police career in September 2010.  Upon completion of his training at the Illinois State Police Academy he was assigned to patrol in District 16 in Jo Davies County. He then transferred to Pittsfield, District 20 patrol in June of 2012.

Trooper Poulter has recently been assigned as the District 20 Investigative Trooper where he has received a great deal of specialized training and works on felony investigations. He also continues to perform patrol duties and assists as a Field Training Officer.

Trooper Poulter is a graduate of Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville with an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  Trooper Poulter attended John Wood Community College in Quincy after graduating from Liberty High School.  Trooper Poulter resides in Adams County with his wife Julia and their three children.
