Last Monday marked the 77th anniversary of the first roller derby in America.  This sport seemed to have gone away and it is making resurgence in the last year or two.  The proof of that is Quincy’s own Dark River Derby Coalition, Quincy all-women’s roller derby team.  They are in their second season of wisking around the track with elbows flying. From all indications the crowds are increasing with each event.

Speaking of that, the Dark River Derby Coalition will be in action this Saturday, August 18th, against ARRG at Scottie’s Fun Spot at 8000 Broadway.  The doors open at 6:30 and the action starts at 7. A portion of the proceeds Saturday night will go to Rookie Rivals for Young Life.  It’s one of the nice things these ladies do, they donate money from their event to great causes in the area at each event.

So, if your plans are not filled for Saturday, head out to see them at Scotties Fun Spot. If you can’t make it Saturday, they have two more events coming up.  One on September 22nd and the other on October 27th. If you would like more information go to www.darkriverderby.com
