The 26th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic will be held this Sunday afternoon from noon to 4pm at Blessing Hospital's main entrance. As the founder of this event 26 years ago, the staff at Blessing Riemann College of Nursing was kind enough to name one of two new gigantic Teddy Bears after me. He is known as the "Dorsey Bear" and the other is known as "Flo" after Florence Nightingale. This morning I got the chance to meet my namesake in our studios.
In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, the Quincy Fire Department will be holding their Annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff event on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Quincy Mall. Their theme this year is "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month." The event will be held on the South parking lot in front of Bergners with the Fountain Court area utilized in case of bad weather.
A couple of six foot tall stuffed bears will make their first appearance at the Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing’s 26th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic on Sunday, October 5, from Noon to 4 p.m. The Clinic will be held in the Auditorium of Blessing Hospital at 11th Street in Quincy (Hospital main entrance).The new bears are named Flo and Dorsey Brown Bear.
The days of "Summer Vacation" are winding down for school children in the area and with it comes the need for purchasing school supplies for the upcoming school year. The cost of these supplies are continuing to go up like everything else. With that in mind, the "Stuff the Bus" campaign will be held this Friday and Saturday.
The Illinois Veterans Home Quincy and WGEM-TV announced that the 2014 Fourth of July fireworks celebration will once again be held on the Illinois Veterans Home grounds in 2014. This is the third time in the past four years that the event has taken place there.
The Sister City Commission announced at their monthly meeting that they will host the Germanfest on Saturday, May 31 in South Park. According to Mecki Kosin, the festival will come back in its original form, with food, drink and music.
The Quincy Fire Department has placed wreaths with red lights on them at all of their firehouses around the city of Quincy. The idea is to have nothing but red lights on the wreath which would mean a fire free Christmas season for homes in the city. Any home fires that occur would cause the Fire Department to change one of the red bulbs to a white bulb. So the goal is to keep the wreaths red and not white.
Tonight wraps up Y101's 101 Day's of Summer promotion and someone will be leaving the Oakley Lindsay Center a very happy person, because they will have won a trip to Mexico!
