This year's 2014 Veteran's Day Parade in Quincy will be held on Saturday, November 8. The Veteran's Parade Committee, led by Chairman Dick McKinney, works all year long on organizing this wonderful event. One of the toughest things to secure for an event like this is a "flyover" of a military aircraft.
Back on July 17 I had the honor of being invited to attend St. Louis Cardinal Broadcaster Mike Shannon's 75th birthday party. The event was held at Shannon's Restaurant in downtown St. Louis. Upon arrival, there was a huge birthday card for all to sign next to the steps leading up to the restaurant. On the other side was a Budweiser Clydesdale. For a fleeting moment I actually felt "small."
What Quincy needs is a really good "big" name concert. I have heard that comment from people for years. The last "big" name concert I can remember was Bret Michaels when he came to Quincy a few years ago. I have wondered why we don't have one "big" concert a year in Quincy.
(Update 1 PM) The vets home grounds has been cleared and no suspects were located. Residents should feel comfortable going back home but should remain cautious as the suspects are still at large. We are looking for two males 18-22 yoa, one white male, uncertain race on the second male. The known white male had very short hair the second had dark curly hair. We believe they are in possession of a handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Flooding along the Mississippi River has once again caused disruptions for residents in and around Quincy. The Memorial Bridge closed to traffic on Monday. Inbound traffic to Quincy continues to be rerouted to the Bayview Bridge. Parts of Bonansinga Drive are also closed due to flooding. The National Weather Service observed the river stage in Quincy at 26.4 feet on Wednesday morning. Forecasters predict flood waters to recede over the next week. Flood stage in Quincy is 17 feet.
