Quincy Exchange Club

Well, it is Smoke on the River time, and with it comes great weather, fabulous BBQ, ice cold beverages and some fantastic blues music from Dave Chastain and his DC3 Band. Dave, originally from the South and now from the Peoria area, is well known in the Blues world and will entertain the crowd at The Dock Friday night from 7 to 11.

The Quincy Exchange Club is hosting Smoke on the River this Friday and Saturday at Kesler Park and The Dock.  Here are some FAQ's about the event:

The Quincy Riverfront will be buzzing through Saturday beginning tonight with the 17th Annual Walk to End Alzheimer's at Clat Adams Park. Then Friday and Saturday the Quincy Exchange Club's 7th Annual Smoke on the River BBQ event will be held at Kesler Park and The Dock.

It's almost time for the 7th annual Smoke on the River Barbecue Contest, sponsored by the Quincy Exchange Club and sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. The event will be held at Quincy’s Kesler Park on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7.

Last Friday I had the opportunity to be at the Quincy Exchange Club meeting at the Stoney Creek Inn. It was certainly an interesting meeting with our speaker, Frank Heck, discussing Video Gaming in the State of Illinois and particularly in our area.

The Quincy Exchange Club just concluded the annual Gus Macker Basketball tournament for the 23rd consecutive year. That’s right, 23 straight years this city has reaped the rewards of having thousands of people come to the downtown area during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Four years ago I lost my best friend and hundreds of others did likewise with the passing of John Tripp. I started to write a blog about John this morning, but I kept deleting what I was writing.  I finally decided that what I wrote last year still fits today so if what you read next sounds familiar, it is. I wrote it from my heart a year ago and the words still say everything I want to say today

This Wednesday is the absolute last day to sign up a team to play in the upcoming Gus Macker Basketball Tournament.  Macker officials have extended the signup date to may 15th.

The Quincy Exchange Club will be hosting the Annual Gus Macker Basketball Tournament in Quincy on May 25 and 26. The time to sign up 4-person teams to play in the event has been extended.
