It was an absolutely perfect night for fireworks last Friday night. The annual fireworks display in Quincy took place at the Illinois Veterans Home. In other years it has been held on the Quincy Riverfront. So I ask the question, if you had to make the decision on where the fireworks display should take place for next July 4, would you select the Illinois Veteran's Home or the Quincy Riverfront (or someplace else)?

Flag Raising Efforts all for Naught

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of a flag in Quincy that was tattered and torn and needed to be removed. New Flag Mission Accomplished! The Red White & Blue is Flying Proudly Again

For weeks there has been a very tattered flag "hanging" on a flag pole between 8th and 9th on Broadway in Quincy. I had hoped the owner would have removed or replaced it. That had not happened. No matter where this flag would have been located, it needed to be disposed of. The fact that it was located on Quincy's busiest street made it even worse. Well, I am happy to report that tattered American Flag has been replaced. With the help of my friend, Tim Gottman of Sign Pro, we took down the old flag and hoisted up a new American Flag, which was donated by the Illinois Veteran's Home.

Not a Veteran? You Can Still Help Out By Volunteering

Monday was Veteran's Day and with it came the Annual Veteran's Day Ceremony at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy. For the third year in a row I was honored to be asked to be the Master of Ceremonies for this event.  Being a non-veteran and being asked to help with this event means a lot to me. Had my brother not already been fighting for our country in Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia, I would be standing at that podium Monday as a veteran myself.
