It was the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th month when World War One finally came to an end.  It was called Armistice Day and still is by many although most people call it Veterans Day now.  Monday in honor of Veterans Day, the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy will hold its Annual Veterans Day Program.

Veteran’s Parade is This Saturday at 10 a.m. in Quincy

It is hard to believe but this Saturday the 6th Annual Veteran's Parade will be held in Quincy with nearly 80 entries ready to go down Maine Street beginning at 10am. I remember meeting with the parade chairmen Jim Ponsot and Dick McKinney five years ago to discuss putting on the first parade.  We had no idea how many entries we would have but to see it nearing 80 this year is fabulous.

Should the Illinois Veterans Home be the Permanent Location for 4th of July Fireworks in Quincy? [Poll]

Because of high waters on the river, this year's 4th of July fireworks display in Quincy has been moved to the Illinois Veterans Home. This is not the first time that such a move has taken place. When the announcement was made, one of our Facebook friends, Chantel, commented, " I wish they would keep it at the Veterans Home." We've heard others express the same idea in the past, so we decided to conduct a poll and see what everyone else thinks. Where would you prefer to see the 4th of July fireworks in Quincy?

I had the honor, and I do mean honor, of being the Master of Ceremonies for yesterday's Veterans Day program at the Illinois Veterans Home. To hear the stories and to see the Veterans in attendance was quite remarkable.
