Want to build a bat house? Anyone interested in “bat-yard conservation” is invited to a public bat-house build from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, January 21, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, sponsored by Missouri Bat Census and Hannibal Parks & Recreation.

A favorite holiday tradition in Hannibal is the annual drive around town to see Christmas lights. Hannibal Parks & Recreation (HPR) is hoping to make it easier to find those houses that show off holiday spirit and reward them as well. In a Holiday House Decorating contest, families and individuals can decorate their home for the holidays and take an exterior photo or video of it for judging. R

There will be something for all ages at "Bat-Fest" Saturday, October 22 at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. "Bat-Fest" is part of a two-day celebration to mark the dedication of Sodalis Nature Preserve, Hannibal’s  second largest park and a nationally important Indiana bat habitat area.  There is no cost.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of that, the lights at the Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse are shining pink to support the cause.

The Hannibal Parks & Recreation has announced that the Ramp Park at Huckleberry Park is now open from noon to dark every day, weather permitting.

Hannibal’s first bat festival will be April 17, in celebration of National Bat Appreciation Day. Events are planned during the day at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center with sunset activities at Sodalis Nature Preserve.
