First Responders of the Quincy Fire Department and the Tri-Township Fire Department are receiving a total of seven animal rescue oxygen mask kits through a donation from Invisible Fence Brand. They will be equipped with the masks after a training session next week. Invisible Fencing Central Missouri will demonstrate  how the masks are used, and Dr. Kristin Spear will also provide additional pet-saving tips to the group.

Representatives will demonstrate how to apply the mask to a dog, and explain how the oxygen mask works.

It is estimated that 40,000 to 150,000 pets each year that die in fires. The animal resuce mask donation is part of a national effort called Project Breathe, a project to equip fire stations across the U.S. and Canada with life-saving devices for animals.

For more information, contact Dr. Kristin Spear at 217-279-4500. The  demonstration will be at 1900 Seminary Road in Quincy on Tuesday, September 23 at 1:30 p.m.
