Most people only know it as the Fourth of July. A day for picnics, flag waving parades, and fireworks. When I grew up most people referred to it as Independence Day. I wish we would still call it that, today.
When the Fourth of July arrives, people plan outdoor activities like watching fireworks, picnics and a visit to the local swimming pool. If you choose to do the latter in Quincy you will have only one option this weekend and that option is Indian Mounds Pool.
The All Wars Museum, located on the beautiful grounds of the Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy, will be conducting a brief ceremony observing the 65th Anniversary of the start of the Korean War at the Museum on July 4. This event was rescheduled from June 25.
Just think, it was not that long ago that visitors planning a trip to Hannibal would have to rely on brochures or calls to the Convention and Visitor's Bureau to get an idea of what National Tom Sawyer Days is all about
