After over 16 hours of deliberations, an Adams County Circuit Court jury failed to reach a verdict in the Curtis Lovelace murder trial Friday.

The jury notified Judge Bob Hardwick about 5:15 p.m. Friday that they were deadlocked and could not come up with a unanimous decision, resulting in a hung jury.

The jury of ten women and two men heard seven days worth of testimony, began deliberations early Thursday afternoon, breaking about 9 p.m. Thursday and reconvening about 9 a.m. Friday.

The jury had been instructed that they would have to find that the state had proven two things in the death of Cory Lovelace - that Curtis Lovelace killed her, and that he did so with intent.

Special Prosecutor Ed Parkinson told reporters after the mistrial was declared that Lovelace would be retried, and that a trial date has already been set for May 31 at 9 a.m.

Curtis Lovelace is alleged to have killed his wife on Valentine's Day of 2006. He is being held in the Hancock County Jail on $5-million dollars bond.
