I overheard a man say the other day that he was going "uptown" to do some shopping. I have also heard people say that they were going "downtown" to get some supplies. Throughout the years in Quincy, I have thought about this. I guess the question is, which is which?

Is the historic business area of Quincy, now called The District, uptown or downtown? I have never really known. If The District is uptown, then where is downtown Quincy? Is it on the south end of town?

The District boundaries extend from Front Street to Twelfth Street and State Street to Broadway. The District helps preserve Quincy's historic business district through community support with both public and private partnerships.

What do you think? Do you normally refer to The District as uptown or downtown?
