It Is Time to Develop Mark Twain Lake

It’s summertime in Missouri and people head each weekend to the Lake of the Ozarks to enjoy all it has to offer. With each passing year the crowds grow and the economic impact in Central Missouri grows with it. The crowds drive from neighboring states to spend time in the Lake of the Ozarks area and while there spend plenty of money in the Show Me State. It makes me wonder why the State of Missouri and the Corps of Engineers hasn’t loosened their reins on development of Mark Twain Lake in Northeast Missouri.

Imagine what the economic impact would be for Northeast Missouri if development were allowed to happen at Mark Twain Lake like it is at the Lake of the Ozarks.  The purists will certainly object to this thought and I can respect their feelings, but the jobs created would be beneficial to the area including tourism for Hannibal and Quincy as well.

Why not make it work for the best of both worlds.  Develop lands around 50% of the Lake and leave the other 50% as pristine as possible.  That would be a win-win for all.
