I believe it was Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer who once said, "If the crooks weren't so stupid, I wouldn't have a job". Well, that comment crossed my mind when I first heard that someone robbed the Zales Jewelry Store in the Quincy Mall Tuesday night. Apparently, they took four pair of diamond earrings from the clerk near closing time. They then ran to a large black SUV in the Quincy Mall parking lot and fled toward North 36th Street.

Now think about this (something they apparently didn't do). They apparently drove to the Mall and got out in the parking lot to walk in. I would assume, like most malls, there are cameras located and fixed on the parking areas of the Mall. They then proceeded to walk into the mall with more cameras on them.

They made their way to, of all places, Zales Jewelry Store. Now, find me one jewelry store in America that doesn't have cameras fixed on their merchandise areas. So now they are on the Zales cameras for the investigators to view.

They then run out with cameras in the Mall catching them and into the parking lot where more cameras find them again. They then get into the vehicle with three other people inside.  So now there are five people with four pair of stolen diamond earrings. Gee, I wonder which one is left without a pair of earrings?

Now, here are 5 people with stolen earrings with the word about their heist all over the midwest, so good luck on heading to an area pawn shop to get cash for them (the value of the lost jewelry has not been revealed).

The Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers (228-4474) is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. Perhaps, the earring-less individual might just be mad enough to turn in the four other earring clad culprits for the $1000 cash reward. Nothing would surprise me anymore.
