Native American Culture Experience Coming to Hannibal
You can celebrate and experience the Native American way of life at an event in Hannibal this weekend. The annual Bear Creek Rendezvous ttps://www.visithannibal.com/events/4th-annual-bear-creek-rendezvous/ takes place this Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11 at the Mark Twain Cave Complex.
In the 1800's, Native Americans and traders and trappers would hold rendezvous to dance, exchange stories, feast, compete in various skills, and buy and sell goods. That's just what you can expect at this rendezvous.
The event includes demonstrations of primitive knife and tomahawk throwing, woodworking, flint napping, gun-ball making, tanning, pottery and Native American cooking. It also features kid's games, an open-air market, tribal music and the Black Hawk Singers.
The event is sponsored by Standing Bear Council in Keokuk. It aims to educate people about tribal history and culture. It runs from 9 a.m. to dusk on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at 300 Cave Hollow Road in Hannibal.
