Check Out the ‘Wealthiest Americans By State’

Movoto has compiled an interesting new interactive map which lists the wealthiest Americans by state. Interestingly, I had never heard of most of these people, and was a little surprised to see the local results for Illinois, Missouri and Iowa.

Iowa's wealthiest American is the least-wealthy of the billionaires between the three states. Harry Stine, who made his fortune in agriculture, has a net worth of $3.1 billion, according to Movoto. Stine is the owner of Stine Seed, which competes with companies like Monsanto and DuPont.

Movoto's map shows Illinois' wealthiest citizen has a net worth of approximately $5.5 billion. Ken Griffin is the CEO of Citadel LLC, an investment firm based in Chicago. Griffin was actually born in Florida, educated at Harvard, and became interested in investing after reading an article in 'Forbes.'

Missouri's wealthiest citizen is not only wealthier than the wealthiest citizens of Iowa and Illinois, he's wealthier than the wealthiest citizens of Iowa and Illinois combined (and then some)! Jack Taylor is the founder of Rent-a-Prize Rent-a-Car, and Movoto estimates his net worth at over $13 billion!

Of the wealthy Americans represented on the map, Movoto says that roughly half are entrepreneurs that founded their own companies. Most have a college degree, though Bill Gates, the wealthiest of them all, is a college dropout.
