With the forecast calling for 5 to 8 inches of snow, it is hard to think about playing baseball, but the season is either underway now (or will be shortly) for the area colleges. Obviously all of the local schools will be playing games in warmer southern locations to begin the season.

For Culver-Stockton's Wildcats, they began the season last Friday with a 2-nothing loss to Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They rebounded nicely against Bacone sweeping a doubleheader Saturday. Culver's first scheduled home date is set for March 1st against Saint Xavier University with a twin bill.

Hannibal-LaGrange's baseball team opens the season this Friday with a doubleheader at Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. Their first home date is Friday, February 21 with a doubleheader against Calumet College of St. Joseph.

The leathernecks of Western Illinois University will begin their season in Louisiana against Louisiana-Monroe. Their first home date is set for Friday, March 21st with a game against Butler University in Macomb.

The Quincy University Hawks will begin their baseball season in Russellville, Arkansas against Arkansas Tech University. The Hawks first game is set for March 15th when they play a doubleheader against Lewis University.

Lastly, the John Wood Community College Trailblazers will open up play in Mississippi with a game against Northwest Mississippi Community College at Senatobia. The Trail blazers first home game is against Quincy University's JV squad on Wednesday, March 19th.

Just reading about Culver-Stockton's twin bill in Sunday's paper made me feel better knowing that Spring on the horizon. Lets play ball!
