I don't delve into politics and I realize that this issue is one of those things, but I can't stop laughing at the movement to try and ban plastic bottles in Missouri. Repeat after me. It. Will. Never. Happen.

First of all, let me start by saying I do respect those that believe plastic bottles are bad for the environment (and maybe people, too). They're probably right. But, the petition I saw at Moveon.org to ban plastic bottles in Missouri is a comedy show. It looks like that for the past at least 2 years (yes, 2 years), they've been unable to muster the requested 300 signatures. Again, I respect these kind people and believe they mean well. But, your energy is for naught. Here's why.

Did you know that Missouri has not only refused to ban plastic bags and bottles, but there is a real movement to ban bans on them? Plastics Today even got real excited about Missouri's enthusiasm for all things plastic. I wonder why? They said that Missouri "is bucking a national trend toward banning the use of plastic bags to help the environment".

I've seen several friends share news recently about a belief that drinking water out of plastic bottles is bad for you. While not every scientific study I've seen agrees, there is a reason to beware.

I think my point is that individuals need to vote with their wallets. Don't like plastic bottles? Don't buy products sold in them and I guarantee you'll see change. Petitions are a waste of time. Vote with your wallet. That's how to affect true change.
