I can't believe I missed it but February 28 was Tooth Fairy Day. It just slipped by me without a thought this year. Before you think the Tooth Fairy is irrelevant, remember everything has some value to it, including teeth.

Remember when you had a loose tooth as a kid and it was dangling there just waiting to come out? All you could think about is what the Tooth Fairy would be leaving under your pillow. It was a big deal. If I got twenty five cents I was happy as could be. More than 25 cents and I was ecstatic.

So today I am reading through some material and I came across this story that a survey conducted by Sunstar Gum, focusing on five major cities, showed the average amount of money left by the Tooth Fairy today is $7.82 per lost tooth. The cities involved in the survey were New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Boston.

If you are going to lose a tooth, may I suggest you do so in New York. The going rate for the Tooth Fairy in the Big Apple is $13.25 a tooth. Los Angeles is next at $9.69 a tooth with Chicago coming in at $5.85 a tooth. The last two showed Dallas at $5.28 a tooth and Boston at $5.02 a tooth. Can you believe the average of $7.82 a tooth? Are you kidding me? I am trying to rip out my teeth now as I write this.

I suppose, a front tooth is worth more than a bicuspid. In that case, I’ll work from the front to the back and build up my retirement that way. Before you know it, kids will have a Visa or Mastercard placed under their pillow.

I guess it’s a sign of the times and even the Tooth Fairy has to keep up with inflation. So what is the Tooth Fairy’s going rate in your home?
