Quincy Gems Preparing For the Season Ahead (Audio)

It maybe still some 7 weeks away but the Quincy Gems are gearing up for their 2016 Summer Prospect League baseball season on the field and off.  The Gems are stocking their roster with ballplayers from around the country and here locally as well.  For the fans, they will see some new things this year at Q.U. Stadium including new bathrooms, new bullpens and a Wall of Honor for living and deceased veterans.

Q.U. to Show a Sexual Assault Film and Hold a Panel Discussion (Audio)

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and as a result Quincy University will be showing "The Hunting Ground", a documentary film about campus sexual assaults, on Monday, April 11.  The hour long movie will be shown at 7:15 p.m. at Quincy University's MacHugh Theatre in conjunction with Quanada and will be followed by a panel discussion on the subject.  It is open to all students and the general public free of charge.

April 22 will be quite an night as the YWCA of Quincy will be holding "A Voice for All Women" event at the Oakley-Lindsay Center.  That night the YWCA will honor four outstanding women for what they do to make our area a better place to live. Those four women are Donna Smith, Kellie Kurre, Chrissy Cox and Taylor Redd.

Every single day thousands of school children enter and exit a school bus as part of their regular day's activity. With each school bus stop comes the possibility of an accident to happen. In talking with Dan Bartelt, a Certified School Bus Driver Instructor, he revealed on the Y101 Radio Morning Show that every single day 1 or 2 drivers report people who fail to stop for a stopped school bus with lights flashing.

Radio stations are notorious for accumulating "junk." Usually it is promotional items or signage, and the junk is kept for future use and most likely will never be used again. Recently, one of our staff members got energetic and cleaned out the Y101 storage area, and in doing so came across a box. That box ended up in my office with what looks like ping-pong balls in it.
