Not a Veteran? You Can Still Help Out By Volunteering

Monday was Veteran's Day and with it came the Annual Veteran's Day Ceremony at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy. For the third year in a row I was honored to be asked to be the Master of Ceremonies for this event.  Being a non-veteran and being asked to help with this event means a lot to me. Had my brother not already been fighting for our country in Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia, I would be standing at that podium Monday as a veteran myself.

It was the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th month when World War One finally came to an end.  It was called Armistice Day and still is by many although most people call it Veterans Day now.  Monday in honor of Veterans Day, the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy will hold its Annual Veterans Day Program.

Monday is Veteran's Day and as a result Quincy City Hall will be closed for the holiday and will reopen on Tuesday, November 12th, for regular business hours.

Entries Being Sought for the November 9 Veteran’s Parade in Quincy

Entries are being sought for the 6th Annual Veteran's Parade which will be held in Quincy on Saturday November 9. The parade, after a 35 year absence, started up again in 2008 and has been going strong ever since thanks to the Co-Chairmen Dick McKinney and Jim Ponsot. This year's parade will be held from 12th to 5th on Maine Street and will begin at 10 a.m. with the lineup beginning at 9 a.m. from 12th to 24th Streets on Maine Street.

Kroc Center In Quincy Free For Veterans This Sunday

On Sunday, November 11 (Veteran's Day), all veterans will have free admission to the Kroc Center including fitness areas, aquatics and gymnasium. Certainly can't beat that price.
