The construction work for the Salvation Army's new Family Store is just about complete and now the process of stocking the store with goods is underway. With that process comes a need for volunteers to assist them in doing so. So the plea for volunteers has gone out.
Recovery information continues to pour in today as the City of Quincy and surrounding area cleans up from the massive storm that struck the area Monday. In no particular order, here are some items you need to know in your own particular recovery effort.
Did you know that the Kroc Center in Quincy was built in under five minutes? OK, not really, but on YouTube it only took four minutes and forty-one seconds! No child should ever awake on Christmas morning without a gift. With that in mind, I came up with an idea 6 years ago called "Load the Lobby". Basically, it was an empty floor in our station lobby that needed to be filled with toys for the less fortunate kids in the area. I had no idea how many toys we would collect that first year but even if we collected 10 toys it was worth it.
The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help pack Christmas Baskets on Tuesday, December 16 at 8:00 a.m. Basket packing will take place this year at the old postal distribution center located just off Wismann Lane on 42nd Street. Just follow the signs. Volunteers may simply show up to help. No registration or confirmation is required.
