Quincy Gems Baseball

The Major League Baseball season begins this Sunday as the St. Louis Cardinals meet the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The historic field is undergoing extensive renovations much like Quincy University Stadium is. With that in mind, I took the opportunity to ask one of the new owners of the Quincy Gems, Terry Martin, a few questions about the upcoming Gems season which begins May 27.

Some 1510 fans turned out to watch the Quincy Gems defeat the Terre Haute Rex last night at Q.U. Stadium. Could they have been watching the final game ever for the Quincy Gems?

The 2014 baseball season begins tonight for the Quincy Gems on the road in Hannibal and the first opportunity to see the Gems at home is this Friday night when they play host to the Danville Dans. Friday is also Y101 Radio night at the ballpark and we have some 200 free tickets to the game while they last.

The Quincy Gems will have home games tonight, tomorrow (the 4th of July) and Saturday with all three nights featuring fireworks after the games conclude.

The Quincy Gems open up their home season with a game against the Springfield Sliders tonight at 6:35. It’s also Y101/ KICK-FM Night at the ballpark.  Bring the whole family out to the game and remember to sign up to win the Toyota Yaris.  Plus Y101and KICK-FM have free tickets and will be giving away t-shirts as well. If you want to work this summer for the Quincy Gems, your opportunity to make that happen will come this Saturday. The Quincy Gems are holding a job fair for summer part time employment opportunities for the 2013 season starting the end of May.

Your time is running out to sign up for this Sunday’s Pack the Park Pink Diamond Dig Night at the ballpark. Emerald City Jewelers is teaming up with the Blessing Breast Cancer Center for this fund-raiser after the Quincy Gems play the Terre Haute Rex with all proceeds going to the Blessing Breast Cancer’s Patient Financial Assistance Fund.

The Quincy Gems are hosting the Military All-Star Traveling baseball team tonight in an exhibition game at Q.U. Stadium.  Dennis Oliver and I have been asked along with others to play for the Military Team and we will be honored to do so.

The Quincy Gems are looking for host families for the 26 collegiate baseball players that make up the Gems Baseball team during the upcoming season.
