It was inevitable. The Meals Plus for Seniors Program is in dire financial condition. The organization has already made cuts in the past and now they are facing additional moves to save money including no food deliveries to the elderly on weekends.

The Western Community Center YMCA in Barry, Illinois is scheduled to open on August 1, 2012.  In anticipation of that big day there will be an open house tonight from 5:00pm until 8:00pm for area residents to get the first look at the completed facility.

I will be involved this Saturday, along with Dennis Oliver, in the 3rd Annual Wild Game Cook Off at the Ridge View Winery in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.  They will be cooking things like Squirrel in a Crock Pot, Beaver Burgers, Elk Roast, Turtle Stew, Deer Sausage, and God knows what else. It got me to thinking about the Pioneer days when people actually ate those foods on a daily basis.
