I remember hearing a long time ago that the best way to tell the locals from the tourists at Hannibal's Autumn Historic Follklife Festival is that the tourists are there for the crafts, and the locals are there for the food.
Power outages are a major concern when severe weather strikes. Extended periods without power - such as the outage many Hannibal residents faced last May after straight-line winds damaged much of the city - can lead to contamination of food stored in refrigerators and freezers. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, " Power outages from weather emergencies compromise the safety of stored food, but consumers can take steps to reduce food waste and the risk of food-borne illness."
If you were to ask several attendees of the Autumn Historic Folklife Festival about their favorite part of the annual event in downtown Hannibal, there's a very good likelihood that you would hear "food" as an answer fairly often. Here's a rundown of who's serving what during the 2013 Folklife Festival, according to the Hannibal Arts Council.
We're all entitled to our own opinions, but food is arguably the best part of any holiday. See, eating our way through this sort of celebration is an automatic win-win-- we're happy, our stomach's are happy, everyone's happy.
Raise your hand if you love summer. We're assuming there was just a collective "aww yeah!" among you, because seriously-- who doesn't enjoy lemonade and Slip N' Slides and hanging your head out the window? But we can't forget the tastiest way to celebrate the season-- ice cream. And lots of it.
