Free Child Safety Seat Inspections to Be Held Today

Safe Kids Adams County and the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety are urging parents and caregivers to make sure their child safety seats are properly installed. Quincy will have certified technicians available to provide free hands-on child safety seat inspections and advice from 4 to 6 p.m. at Central Fire Station at 906 Vermont is Friday.

Fire Prevention Week to Feature a Home Fire Drill Day at the Quincy Mall

Home fires have proven to be one of the largest disaster threats facing American families today, resulting more than 8 in 10 fire-related deaths. To raise awareness about this issue and encourage families to be prepared, Safe Kids Adams County will be joining Central Fire Station, Safe Kids Worldwide, Nationwide’s Make Safe Happen program and other experts for a Home Fire Drill Day this Saturday.

National Seat Check Saturday is this Saturday, September 24, and Safe Kids Adams County will be conducting a child safety seat belt check. At Monday night’s City Council meeting in Quincy the Council voted 11 to 3 in favor of an amendment to move monies within the budget to re-open Fire Station #6 at 24th and Cedar in Quincy. Even with the vote, the plan may never see the light of day.

Q.F.D. Selling Shirts for Blessing Cancer Center Financial Assistance Program

The Quincy Fire Department is again selling commemorative t-shirts to raise funds for the Blessing Cancer Center's Financial Assistance Program. This year the shirts are black in color. The design features a full back logo with the breast cancer ribbons, dressed as firefighters, operating an old Quincy Fire Department hand pumper in observance of the City of Quincy's 175th Anniversary of being a chartered city.

Firefighter's Local #63 will be hosting the annual Christmas Open House and Fire Station Lighting Ceremony this Friday at the Central Fire Station at 906 Vermont in Quincy.  The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30.

The 2014 "Firefighters for a Cause" T-Shirts are now available at the Central Fire Station in Quincy at 906 Vermont. This dark grey t-shirt, designed by firefighter Mike Dade, features a full black logo with the breast cancer ribbon dressed as a firefighter performing an automobile extrication. The proceeds from the sale of these shirts will go to the Blessing Cancer Center's Financial Assistance Program.
