You hear her twice weekly on Y101 Radio discussing some fabulous locations to visit on vacation, so we asked Destination Travel's Lori Bergman to give us a few travel tips for the summer.

If you have one or two hot spots to send a single person on a vacation, where would they be and why?

I would send them to a Hard Rock Resort because they also cater to singles and this is a must when traveling alone. Or I would book them on one of the single cruises Carnival offers throughout the year.

If you have one or two hot spots to send a family on a vacation, where would they be?

Any DREAMS resort! They are amazing for families and cater to children of ALL ages unlike other resorts that might only take care of one age bracket.

What are some of the suggestions you would make for someone flying this summer?

Just flying with no vacation package? Or anyone? I would suggest for them to double check their flight times 24 hours prior to departure, since times change all the time. And if they booked it on their own, double check the extra/hidden costs of luggage, carry-on luggage, seats, meals, drinks, etc. If you book your air with Destination Travel, we advise you of these fees PRIOR to booking your air.

Why are destination weddings becoming so popular?

They are less expensive, they are “hassle free” for the bride and groom, which probably lead super busy lives. And your friends and family that attend can make it into their own vacation, as well.

Can you name some day trip locations that people might want to go to?

Kansas City, Chicago, Lake of the Ozarks, Baseball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Missouri and Herman, Missouri for the wineries….the list goes on and on.

I believe the year was 2006 when I met Lori. She was just starting her business and needed a way to let people know about Destination Travel. Meanwhile, Y101 was needing to come up with a fabulous trip to give away for our 101 Days of Summer promotion. It was a win-win for both and the rest is history.

Since you hear her on the radio all the time, we thought you might like to know Lori a little better. We threw a few personal questions at her, and here are her answers.

Where did you grow up?

Born in Clinton, Iowa. Raised in Maryville/Collinsville, Illinois.

What did you want to do as a kid?

I always wanted to be a teacher or counselor and honestly that is a big part of being a Travel Specialist, so it all worked out.

Why did you get into the Travel Business?

I used to be a corporate traveler for a retail company and when that ended I started booking corporate travel because there was so much missing for the traveler. After the airlines cut commission, I moved to leisure travel and loved it!

If you would retire to one location for the rest of your life, where would it be?

Wow! Big question. Born and raised in the Midwest and that is where my heart is so I would stay here.
