To be 12 years old and be gunned down in Chicago is absolutely horrible, but to be 12 year old Rayshone Humphrey Jr. and be gunned down on a street in Quincy is horrific. It just doesn't happen here.

The times are changing Quincy and those changes have taken a long time to get to our relatively safe town. But those changes are finally here in our city and they are not for the good. Guns are everywhere these day and they are in the hands of the wrong people. What used to be settled in a parking lot with two fists is now being settled with a bullet and a trigger and I don’t see it going away soon.

What happened Saturday morning will unfortunately happen again. Whose son or daughter will be next? Can you imagine being a parent and getting that call from the Police Department that your child was just shot to death?

So how do we stop this from happening?  Completely stop it? We can’t. But we can minimize it. People need to be aware of what is going on around them. Report what they see (and know) to the Quincy Police Department. No matter how small it may seem. Sometimes five or so small tips can be more beneficial that one larger tip.

Someone out there knows something about Saturday’s shooting. Doing nothing will only lead to another fatal shooting in our city and who wants to see that. That’s the way I see it!
