The Adams County Fair is expanding.  A ribbon cutting for a new horse barn is being planed for Monday, July 6 at 9:30 a.m. north of Quincy on route 336.

Board members will cut the ribbon on its first horse barn adjacent to the horse arena. The addition of the new horse barn also allows the fairgrounds to be considered to host other shows in future years.

Another investment in the fairgrounds is the renovation of the current horse arena on the grounds. It is now no surprise that the Adams County Fairis currently ranked second in the state for horse events, behind the Illinois State Fair. The Adams County Fair kicks off on July 29.

Adams County Fair Board reveals new Horse Barn

During a time when the state of Illinois is cutting funding to county fairs all over the state, the Adams County Fair is expanding.  Board members will cut the ribbon on its first horse barn adjacent to the horse arena.

The ribbon cutting is scheduled for Monday, July 6 at 9:30a.m. at the fairgrounds 10 minutes North of Quincy on Highway 336.

The Fair Board decided to invest in the new facility earlier this year to accommodate riders and their animals who wished to rent stalls during the many horse shows through out the year.  The addition of the new horse barn also allows the fairgrounds to be considered to host other shows in the future.

"Many riders don't want to tie their horses up to trailers and need a safe place to keep horses between shows," said Diane Frazier, Horse Owner and 4-H Horse Supporter. "This horse barn will open up opportunities for the fair and this area that we've never had before."

The facility was constructed in connection with a planned renovation of the current horse arena - another investment in the current grounds.

"Like all fairs across the state we are experiencing big state funding cuts.  Our fair board supports the state's efforts to balance the budget and has planned for it," said Melissa Shriver-Hackamack, Fair Board Director.  "We see this as an investment to make our fair bigger and better.  We're moving forward - not backward and trust that our community in Adams County and beyond will continue to support their fair as they always have."

The Adams County Fair is currently ranked second in the state for horse events, behind the Illinois State Fair.  Visitors to the fair can take in nine horse shows during the fair's seven days.  That does not take into account the many shows and clinics hosted there by various equestrian organizations all year round.

One such event is coming up July 11 and 12th.  "Roping for the Smartie" is a horse roping event which used to take place at the Illinois State Fair before budget reductions.  It is moving to the Adams County Fair Grounds for the first time this year.

The 2015 Adams County Fair runs from Wednesday, July 29 to Tuesday, August 4 at the fairgrounds located 15 minutes north of Quincy on Highway 336.  Find the latest fair information 24 hours a day at www.adamsfair.org on on Facebook and Twitter.
