I'm not sure how much of this to believe. A newly released Harris Poll attempts to get to the bottom of Americans' lying habits. The trouble with such a poll, of course, is that those surveyed are admitted liars. And the those that don't admit to it could be lying. So keep all of that in mind as you go through these statistics.

According to Harris, the people Americans lie to the most are their parents and their significant others. The two biggest topics that those surveyed lie about are spending/purchases, and sexual experience.

When lying to best friends, the biggest fibs told by Americans are about sexual experience (shocking!), income/salary, political beliefs and religious beliefs.

Other people that were commonly lied to, according to this survey, include siblings and doctors. Harris says nearly 40% of Americans have lied to get out of going to work, and about a third have lied to get out of a social event.

Interestingly, almost 70% of respondents felt that other people taking the survey were probably lying about their answers, but only 6% admitted to lying, themselves.

There is a lot of data to go through when looking at the complete findings of the survey, and a lot of if might not be true, but it's fun to look through, and much of it does seem to pass the "smell test." Maybe there is some degree of accuracy to these findings, after all.
