Not only was George Washington a Revolutionary War General and the First President of the United States but he was also a design artist.  We all know about his abilities to lead men in the Revolutionary War and his abilities to be the President of the United States, but did you know he was also a designer?

I didn't know that.  As proof of his abilities to design things, it was 237 years ago today, January 2nd, 1776, that George Washington designed the first United States Flag with thirteen red and white stripes and a Union Jack in the corner.

The flag has been modified 26 times over the years with the last change coming August 21st, 1959 when the 50th star was added to it.
