Don’t Ever Forget June 6, 1944

Tomorrow is June 6th.  It’s a day that Americans should never forget.  68 years ago tomorrow June 6th,1944,  Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than160, 000 troops,  5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was very high with more than 9,000 Allied soldiers killed or wounded. As a result of D-Day more than 100,000 soldiers began their march across Europe to defeat Hitler.  This area, more than other areas, is very good at remembering days like tomorrow.  The show of patriotism for Flag Day, Veterans Day, The Freedom Flights and even last weekend’s Freedom Fishing event is very evident.  Unfortunately, that is not always the case around the country. It’s days like D-Day that shall never be forgotten.  Unfortunately, 68 years have passed since that D-Day and as years go by less and less mentioning of events like D-Day and Pearl Harbor Day occurs. So please pass the word tomorrow to remind everyone that we lost 9-thousand lives to preserve our freedoms on June 6th, 1944.
