Maybe it's because the skies are more colorful, but it seems like there are quite a few airplanes flying over our heads these days. They are very easy to see thanks to the vapor trails that they leave behind them in the sky.
Earlier this week we posted a poll asking what your favorite season is. Fall soundly defeated summer and spring which ended up neck and neck in the balloting. No surprise here that winter was a distant fourth in the poll. My preference is fall. The sun rises and the sunsets during the fall are incredible.
Fall will arrive tonight at 9:29 CDT and with it will mark the conclusion of the summer of 2014. In my estimation, this past summer was one of the best we have had in a long while, with the exception of the pesky gnats that never seemed to go away.
Frankie MacDonald's weather forecast for our region during this past winter was described by one writer as "epic." On Monday, parts of Illinois were under the risk of severe thunderstorms, and Frankie made sure to once again sound the alarm. His warning includes a reminder to "order your pizzas and order your Chinese food" and to make sure to keep your phones and iPads charged. Frankie also recommends avoiding large puddles and not going too far on a walk without an umbrella.
Mother Nature has finally decided to let us experience what summer is supposed to be like. Hot, humid, 90 plus degree temperatures are here and will be into next week. As a result, the Humane Society of Missouri has listed some tips for pet owners.
I hope you have had the opportunity to view what they are calling the “supermoon” the last couple of days. I happened to see it Sunday night when it magically appeared over the right field fence at Q.U. Stadium while I was watching the Quincy Gems play baseball. It was quite a sight.
Isn't it funny how we can be when it comes to weather. Just a few weeks ago we were complaining about the temperature dropping to 9 below zero and wind chill reading of 25 to 30 below zero. Then comes a day like today with the temperatures warming to around 90 or above this afternoon. I heard the complaining today too about it being too hot. I have to agree.
